Traffic Court Records in DeWitt County
Venue is local. A City of Cuero ticket routes to Cuero Municipal Court, while a Yorktown matter goes to Yorktown Municipal Court. A justice-court citation belongs to JP1 or JP2. The constitutional County Court may hold a traffic appeal or a fine-only case, yet it is not the automatic home for every ticket written in DeWitt County.
The citation itself is your index. Read the court name, the citation number, and the printed appearance or payment date. Each municipal and JP clerk keeps its own records. DeWitt County offers no countywide public JP docket search, and neither municipal payment route exposes a public register of actions. For status, settings, or copies, the issuing court controls.
How to Look Up a Traffic Ticket
DeWitt County municipal and JP courts offer no online citation-search fields for traffic cases. The paper citation is your tool. Call the clerk directly. Never assume a name or birth-date search the court has not published.
- Read the issuing court, citation number, appearance date, and court address from the ticket.
- Allow Cuero's stated five-day processing period when that court issued the ticket, without missing the printed deadline.
- Use the court's official page for instructions; treat its payment link only as a payment route.
- Call, write, mail, or visit the issuing clerk with the citation number and name if status is not visible.
- Ask for the present plea, setting, balance, disposition, or copy that answers the specific need.
Cuero accepts in-person or mailed contact by the appearance date. Yorktown lists TrafficPayment and its vendor number, 1-800-444-1187. That number pays a fine. JP1 and JP2 publish forms and direct contacts rather than a shared citation portal.
DeWitt Tickets Awaiting Processing
The Cuero Municipal Court questions page says to allow five days for the court to receive a ticket from police. That wait does not move the appearance date. Keep the citation. Note the deadline. If the matter is still unavailable after the processing window, contact the clerk.
Payment is impossible until the ticket is processed. A person or attorney must still reach the court in person or by mail by the date on the citation. After a not-guilty plea places a case on a docket, the city mails notice. Keep a current mailing address on file.
New ticket: wait for Cuero's processing period, but never treat the wait as permission to miss the citation deadline.
Finding Your Traffic Court Date
Start with the appearance date printed on the citation. A mailed court notice may later identify the actual docket setting. When you call, read the citation identifier exactly: the Citation No. printed on the ticket. The courts share no one number pattern. That printed number is the key.
| Citation Number | The exact Citation No. used by the issuing court. |
|---|---|
| Court | Cuero, Yorktown, JP1, JP2, or another venue named on the citation. |
| Date & Time | The printed appearance date or later setting notice. Cuero holds court Wednesdays at 9:00 a.m. |
| Location | The address stated by the issuing court, not a guessed county office. |
| Status | The plea, setting, payment, or disposition the clerk confirms. |
Cuero mails a hearing notice to each person whose case gets set. For JP matters, rely on the printed appearance date and the issuing precinct. Yorktown posts no separate calendar. Confirm all DeWitt County traffic court dates with the clerk before travel.
DeWitt Traffic Venue in Nordheim
Nordheim's official site lists City Hall contact details. It posts no municipal-court page, court calendar, or citation payment link. Its civic calendar is not a traffic docket. That gap does not mean no traffic case exists. Nor does it mean a ticket belongs to another city.
Call Nordheim City Hall at 361-938-5223 or email cityofnordheim@att.net. Read the issuer on the citation. Ask whether the matter routes to a city clerk, JP1, JP2, or another venue. Then confirm the court before sending any plea, payment, or copy request.
DeWitt Payment Is Not Search
Cuero's official court page links an online payment vendor. Yorktown's directory links TrafficPayment. Neither is a docket search engine. Both are payment and response channels. The city pages expose no case-event tabs, search-field list, or register-of-actions view. Use a payment route only after confirming the court, the citation, the amount, and the plea effect. For a date, a status, a record copy, or a not-guilty response, contact the city clerk. A receipt proves a payment went through. It does not show every event in the DeWitt County traffic court record.
Note: A vendor payment screen should never be used to infer that a missing DeWitt citation has been dismissed.
Paying or Contesting a Ticket
Cuero lets most people over 16 pay eligible fines in full instead of appearing. Paying takes the place of a court date. The court takes cash, money order, credit card, and cashier's check, through in-person, mail, and some online paths, and its questions page leaves personal checks off the list. A not-guilty plea follows a different route. It requires a counter appearance at 212 E. Main.
| Paying | Contesting |
|---|---|
| Confirm the ticket has been processed and the amount is current. | Enter a not-guilty plea through the method the issuing court requires. |
| Use the approved in-person, mail, or online channel. | Cuero requires appearance at its counter, then mails a docket notice. |
| Respond by the citation deadline. | Respond by the same controlling appearance date. |
| Keep the payment receipt and verify the case status. | Keep the court informed of a current mailing address. |
Do not miss the date: failure to respond can lead to added court action or fees under the issuing court's rules.
Contact the clerk at once for the current case status and lawful next step.
A trial adds no cost merely because the plea is not guilty, Cuero says. One fee can follow. A $3 jury fee applies if a jury finds the person guilty. Confirm all amounts with the court first.
DeWitt Defensive Driving Requests
Cuero sets a firm deadline for defensive driving. Your request has to reach the court by the appearance date on the citation. Texas also imposes conditions. You need a valid driver license and whatever extra proof the court demands. You cannot have finished a defensive-driving course in the prior 12 months. Certain moving violations are off the table entirely. Meeting these conditions is a request, not a promise that the court will grant relief.
The form you file depends on which court issued the ticket. JP1 posts its own Driving Safety Course Affidavit and Driver Record Request among its forms. A Cuero request should therefore never go to a justice court. Check with that court's clerk for the current documents and payment. Rules shift from one court and charge to the next.
Court Traffic Record vs Driver Record
A traffic court file and a Texas driving record are two different things. The court docket tracks your citation locally. It follows the plea, settings, payments, and judgment. The state record lives with the Texas Department of Public Safety instead. Knowing the difference just helps you ask the right office for the right record.
| Court traffic record | Driver record | |
|---|---|---|
| Kept by | Issuing municipal or justice court clerk | Texas Department of Public Safety |
| Shows | Citation, plea, setting, payment, judgment, and appeal activity | State administrative driving-history data |
| Get it | Contact the issuing clerk for the case file or copy | Use the DPS record-request route |
A Driver Record Request form sitting on a JP page does not make that JP docket the state record. Keep the two files separate. When your question involves a DeWitt County citation or hearing, use the court record.
DeWitt Traffic Clerk Counters
No countywide search covers every traffic docket here. Calling each clerk closes that gap. The Cuero Municipal Court page posts payment hours Monday through Thursday, 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., plus Friday from 7:30 a.m. to noon. For justice court hours, the DeWitt Justice Courts page lists JP1 on weekdays from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., though the noon window varies.

Fees and Copies
Copy fees differ by court, so ask the issuing one for its current charge. The County Clerk schedule governs only if a traffic matter is actually filed in County Court. Municipal and JP fees must be confirmed with their own clerks. One warning from the County Clerk: do not prepay an official copy request. Wait until the office has received it first.
| Item | Researched amount | Scope |
|---|---|---|
| Plain paper copy | $1 per page | County Clerk 2026 schedule |
| Certified copy | $1 per page plus $5 per instrument | County Clerk certification schedule |
| Name search without cause number | $5 per name | County Clerk 2026 schedule |
| Fine-only/Class C/traffic court-cost line | $76 total | County Clerk schedule; verify the actual issuing court |
An older 2024 JP1 fine sheet lists example fines plus a 30 percent delinquency fee once 60 days pass. Read it as a dated sample only. Never quote those old figures for a new citation; verify the current schedule instead.
DeWitt Municipal Appeal Timing
Cuero's questions page gives a hard appeal window. An appeal and bond must be filed no later than the tenth day after judgment. The cash bond equals twice the fine. Appeal steps affect your rights, so confirm the deadline, amount, and filing method with Cuero Municipal Court. Get legal advice if you need it.
Remember that this route only applies after a judgment has been entered. It has nothing to do with asking the clerk to reset an appearance date. It also does not cover contesting a new citation or ordering a copy. Check the docket for the judgment and any appeal filed after it. If the case moves up, a county-level matter goes through the appropriate County Clerk route.
